Bio

Nathan Hirschaut, director, choreographer, and performer, grew up in Santa Cruz, CA, making extravagant talent shows and intervening in his sister's dance recitals. Once catching the art bug, Nathan's passion propelled him to notoriety, winning national dance competitions and appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In 2016, Nathan attended the Juilliard School for Dance, receiving choreographic honors and graduating with his BFA in 2020. Concurrently, Nathan began studying various forms of yoga and meditation, ritual magic, and Buddhism. After graduation, Nathan merged his spiritual and artistic passions, directing and producing theatrical productions and films. Most notably, Nathan's film, Child of the Screen, appeared on Sunset Blvd as part of the West Hollywood Arts Council MIMA (Moving Image Media Art) program. His projects have also been awarded internationally at the Academy Award qualifying festival, Short Shorts Film Festival in Tokyo, Dance on Camera, Dance Camera West and featured in NPR, The Washington Post, and The LA Times. Nathan merges his exploration of consciousness with his love of contemporary dance, telling stories about our journey to self-realizatiom.

Merging contemporary dance, ritual theatre, and the mystical teachings of tantric Buddhism I tell transformative stories about death, sex, identity, politics and the pain of being human. Through trance-like states that blur the boundaries between insanity and enlightenment, I use movement, sound, and storytelling to alchemize suffering into ecstasy.

Whether through befriending the grief after the death of my father, confronting my self destructive behaviors, or recovering from multiple life threatening diseases with years spent in solitude, dance has been my life raft. To me a choreographer is a ritualist, who works with the unseen to design processions to the Divine. When we allow the body to guide us, we access not only our own stories but the collective memory of movement that transcends time. In this way we surpass our individual consciousness and merge with the greater forces of life and death that unlock our unlimited potential.

I aspire to create work that unites visionary minds across disciplines—dance, fashion, technology, music, theater, poetry, and film—building immersive, boundary-defying collaborations. My ultimate goal is to establish dance as a revolutionary force for healing and transformation, a universal language that reconnects us to our sacred world.
